More than 4,500 was raised at a black tie ball in aid of the ELY Memorial Fund which helps Herefordshire families who have suffered the loss of a young person in a road accident.

The event at Herefords Shirehall was held in memory of Emma Louise Young, in whose name the charity was established in February, under the remit of SCARD Support and Care After Road Death and Injury.

Over a four-course dinner, 240 guests were entertained by a pianist and singing and afterwards the fun included a raffle, auction, cabaret and dancing. During the evening, a cheque for 1,000 was presented to Carole Whittingham, the founder of SCARD.
