Keeping ARK afloat
The Hereford branch of ARK (Arthritis Research UK) has raised approximately 150,000 during its 30 years of local activity through concerts, talks, coffee mornings and tea parties. Regular donations are also made by generous individuals and groups. But Myrtle Middleton, the chairman for the past 10 years, says this valuable contribution to research, including work in stem cell research which promises an alternative treatment to hip and knee replacements, is in danger of ceasing in Hereford, unless new volunteers with energy, drive and fresh ideas come forward.
During the summer funds were boosted by a coffee morning hosted by Mr and Mrs Alan Blake and a garden tea party at Sufton Court, Mordiford, home of Lord and Lady Hereford, which is pictured here.
