After five years of fund giving, the Local Network Fund ended its lifetime with an event to celebrate the project's enormous success.

Over 1.25 million was awarded to over 260 voluntary groups working with children and young people in Herefordshire and more than 12,000 youngsters aged from one to 19 benefited from grants which allowed groups to purchase equipment or develop ideas.

It was appropriate that General Sir Peter de la Billire opened the event because he presented the first grant award five years ago and has
followed the scheme with interest throughout its life.

More than 70 people attended the celebration, which included presentations from some of the more innovative projects and demonstrations from some of the more energetic.

The Fund was delivered jointly by Herefordshire Voluntary Action and Herefordshire Community Foundation, and has been widely applauded as an example of excellent partnership in the voluntary sector.
