A new Clinical Hydrotherapy service offered by Nuffield Health Hereford hospital is proving extremely popular with patients and is giving those with even long standing problems a new lease of life.
Hydrotherapy is physiotherapy in water and the demand for this new service, which Nuffield Health launched last year, has grown so quickly that additional sessions have already been scheduled.
Margaret, one of the first patients to receive treatment writes Hydrotherapy together with the expert guidance and encouragement of physiotherapists can help the return of essential movement. The water is beautifully warm and takes away the bodys weight, so that exercise is possible and easier and can be repeated time and time again with greatly reduced pain and stiffness. Hydrotherapy has been a great help to me. After two years of pain and great difficulty walking I am able to move well and muscle strength recovered it is like a new lease of life.
The service is run and supervised by Nuffield Healths Isobel Martin, a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapist and Hydrotherapist. Isobel says I am delighted with how the service has taken off. Hydrotherapy can be a really effective treatment. If you have pain and stiffness following injury, surgery or general wear and tear we can use the buoyancy and resistance of the warm water to help regain flexibility, strength and function. All sessions are geared to individual needs. Isobel has 30 years experience and a wealth of knowledge in this field and is also leading a regional training course in Hydrotherapy for other Physiotherapists within the Nuffield Health Hospitals group.
Nuffield Health run the sessions weekly in a purpose built hydrotherapy pool at the Point4 in Hereford. They offer a six week programme of tailor made exercises for anyone aged three upwards; these exercises are based on individual needs following a comprehensive pre course assessment. Sessions are held with a maximum of two people and open to swimmers and non swimmers alike.
