And talking of underwear, purple reigns supreme on the lingerie scene this season. Good news then for those ladies who love a regal touch at Christmas, not to mention the appreciative men in their lives. Rich tones of purple, magenta, blackberry and the rest are at the fashion forefront, both in the high street and in designer collections. Purple really is the hottest shade around right now. The same goes for underwear collections which are positively brimming with various tones of the colour.
In fact, purple is perfect for something thats a bit different in the intimate apparel stakes. While sultry red and seductive black remain high on the list of all-time favourites in festive lingerie, the colour purple is becoming increasingly popularity among wearers. The collections see a full spectrum of purple hues from bursts of violet to deeper, more subtle shades used to highlight black bras, briefs and basques. Dark shades of plum and aubergine are also featured in the palette along with lilac accents to soften various pieces. And to add to the decadent picture, there are all sorts of fabulous embellishments and details such as pretty satin bows, sheer net trims and embroidered flowers.
Jenny Hunter, PR and marketing executive for leading lingerie manufacturers Eveden, whose brands include Fantasie, Fauve and Freya, says purple is bang on trend this season. Its been seen on the catwalks and in the high street in various guises, she says. Its a great alternative to black in lingerie and injects a subtle hint of colour. This season weve offered a selection of collections across our brands in various purple tones from rich berry to deep and sumptuous jewel like shades.
The collections have proved very successful and no doubt sales will continue to improve in the run-up to Christmas as the male population goes in search of the perfect gift for the women in their lives. Purple creates a vampish, yet sophisticated look when its teamed with black, but it can also be fun and girly. Think retro 1980s, so it is also very versatile. A more traditional lingerie shade associated with Christmas is red which, of course, will be a bestseller for the festive season. But not everyone wants the traditional choice, so it may well be purples season. Grey and gold are among the shades also featured in the collections, two shades which create a feel of opulent Hollywood glamour, says Jenny.
Meanwhile, if lingerie doesnt score high on the wish list, there are plenty more ideas, especially accessories. Jewellery, whether designer or the costume version, is always an acceptable present to unwrap on Christmas morning. There are simply bucketfuls of chunky bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings around now, as well as far more subtle designs in crystal and diamonds. Also on the ideal gift scene come elegant leather gloves, colourful scarves and handbags and remember the modern adage a girl can never have enough friends or handbags.
